  • COLUMBIA HILLS STATE PARK (HORSETHIEF LAKE STATE PARK): Columbia Hills State Park is a 3,338-acre camping park with 7,500 feet of freshwater shoreline on the Columbia River. Horsethief Butte dominates the skyline. It stands over the lake like an ancient castle. The lake itself is about 90 acres in size and is actually an impoundment of the Columbia River. The lake was flooded into existence by the reservoir created by The Dalles Dam. Pictographs can be easily viewed from hiking trails. For Petroglyph Viewing Walk the Temani Pesh-wa Trail. Native American pictographs and petroglyphs are on display. No reservations are needed to view the dozens of rock art displays and interpretive panels which are open daily from April through October. With advance reservations, guided tours to view Tsagaglalal (She Who Watches) run at 10 am every Friday and Saturday between April and October. Tsagaglalal is perhaps the most famous petroglyph in the Pacific Northwest. Petroglyph tour, camping, park, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and rock climbing. There is a $5 per vehicle use fee to visit the park. There are two boat ramps and a small launch fee. Camping sites are on a first come-first serve basis.   • STONEHEDGE: To the east of Maryhill Museum is Stonehenge, a replica of the famous ruins in England, which Sam Hill built to honor the county's war victims of World War I. The monument sits above the small orchard community of Maryhill. Sam Hill's Maryhill Loop Road, the first paved road in the state, winds from Maryhill up the steep grade of the Klickitat Hills towards Goldendale.

  • TIMBERLINE LODGE: (503) 272-3311. At the top of Mt. Hood. National Historic landmark built in the 1930's as a WPA project. Open year-round, skiing, dining, and overnight lodging available.

  • TROUT LAKE CAVES: This area has 100's of lava caves. There are large caves with 60 foot high ceilings (Cheese cave) to belly crawling caves. Too many of them to name. There are maze like caves like Deadhorse cave, Pickings cave and more. There are Ice caves (Goular Ice cave). Caves with cool formations, lava trenches (Wildcat cave), Natural Bridges and more. Then there are big long caves with lots of breakdown to give you a good work out like Big cave. Then there are caves with cool minerals in them like Happy cave, Slime cave and Metrocal cave.
