Quadrille riding is choreographed group riding either with or without musical accompaniment. A quadrille is made up of at least four riders performing drills or movements in unison. It has it's roots in a military tradition and is most famously practiced by the riders at the classical schools of horsemanship in Spain, Portugal, France and Austria, such as the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

Dressage training can be hard, tedious work- but riding in a group is fun for horses and riders, and the team aspect is appealing in a sport where riders can often feel like loners. The teamwork of riding in quadrille is beneficial for horses and riders who, over time, become more similar and united through discipline and precision.
